Creative Juices
I've gotten my creative juices flowing lately and I am finally going to blog about it. I think it is so fun to make decorative pieces for my home for such a low price! My first project is a doorknob coat hanger. I purchased the wooden plank from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. I got the paint and knobs from Hobby Lobby and Viola! I can't wait to hang our coats on it!
My second project I stole from a friend. I made chalkboards out of old cabinet doors. I purchased the cabinet doors from the ReStore and the paint from Hobby Lobby! I want to use the big one for Bible verses. And I'm not sure what I want to use the smaller one for... menu, little notes from Mom, something cutesy like "kiss the cook".. Any suggestions?
Finally, I just have to share about this Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Love. it. You will too. It's actually only about a 1.5 minute drive from my house. But people and companies donate household objects to this place and the proceeds go to the Habitat for Humanity. You can find everything from furniture, to light fixtures, to cabinet sets, to doors, to bricks, to tools, to kitchen appliances! And you can get GREAT deals. A place like this makes these types of projects inexpensive and offers so much to choose from. If you live in Fayetteville, you need to check it out! Well, those are my recent craftings. Hopefully there will be more craft postings soon!

Sleepyhead
I thank God that he gave me a cuddler. I remember telling people while I was pregnant that I hoped I would have cuddly children and I think I got a few "good luck with that" comments. But I think Emerson is a pretty sweet-spirited boy and I love it.
Sometimes when he gets sleepy he gets a little cranky. Other times he gets real sweet and cozy. I just soak it up when he is fading and he rests his head on my shoulder. Sometimes I think he even falls asleep in my arms in an upright position.
He is also quite the kisser lately. He especially does it when he's in a happy mood, like after a nap or a feeding. I love it when I go in to get him from his crib and he grabs both my cheeks and gives me a big open-mouth kiss. Do you think he realizes that kisses are a sign of affection? Because it really seems like it sometimes.

Birthday Bash
I celebrated my 25th birthday a week ago today and was blessed enough to be able to spend the weekend celebrating with family. By birthday two years ago was especially special, because my favorite (ahem... and only) nephew was born on that day! What a special day we share together now :) What poor little two-year-old wants to have to share his birthday? But we were able to celebrate both this past weekend.
On my birthday day, Caleb and Emerson gave me a card and told me they were going to get me a firepit for our backyard! I have been wanting one for awhile, so I'm super excited about this. We went to Lowe's and picked one out, but at the checkout they told us that the one we picked (the cutest by far) was recalled! So, we need to continue our search for the perfect firepit to adorn our backyard.
We got to spend the next day celebrating with Caleb's parents and my family! We went to this cute, new bakery in Farmington that I must recommend to everyone in this area. It's called Briar Rose Bakery and it looks like a cottage! I think it would be great for any meal, but we went for lunch. Their sandwiches were absolutely delicious! Apparently they make pizza in their wood-fire stove for dinner. I want to try that out sometime.
That afternoon my family came over for some relaxation, cake, and gift opening! Emerson slept the entire time. But Caleb's parents got me several crafty supplies to encourage my new creativity hobby (speaking of, check back soon for pics of the doorknob project I mentioned previously). My parents got me some porch chairs and a George Foreman grill. I've already made some panini/sandwich things on it. Delish. The chairs will be perfect for sitting around the firepit in the fall!
Ariel got me a JJ Heller CD, who I am enjoying these days. And Alyssa got me a starbucks giftcard!! It was a good time and we all enjoyed sitting around and chatting.
Emerson woke up just in time to eat and then head to Caeden's birthday party at Gymboree. It was so cute watching so many little tots running around and playing. Caeden was the cutest little birthday boy. When he opened each present he took it to the person who brought it for him and gave it to them. I'm not sure if he thought the presents were for them or what, but it was pretty darn cute! Emerson even got to join in on some of the fun at Gymboree!

As I mentioned in another post, he likes touching people's faces lately |

Play, Laugh, Grow
Here are a few things I would like to remember about Emerson at 4 months old
-He is laughing more and more, which is so fun!
-He is much more interested in his toys than he used to be.
-He is pushing up on his arms now. He used to roll over from his tummy to his back by using his head weight, but now he pushes himself over with his arms and core muscles.
-He is beginning to sit up for a few seconds at a time.
-Still LOVES to stand and walk.
-He has begun to grab for anything within reach. So if he is sitting on my lap while I eat, he is constantly trying to grab my bowl/plate/fork/cup, etc.
-He is also interested in touching our faces. He likes to grab my cheeks and he likes to feel Caleb's scruffy face.
-If he is sitting on his bottom and holding onto my fingers, he can pull himself up to standing position. He is just getting stronger in general.
I am having a blast watching him learn and grow. He is pretty fun these days and I am so blessed to get to spend each day with him. Here are a few recent pics:
Just doing a little light reading. This picture is actually deceiving, because whenever a book makes it into Emerson's hands, it goes straight to his mouth.
Kisses from Mommy:
I got to meet with a few of my youth girls! Good times :)
